MORE than £5,000 worth of damage has been caused after two schools in Newry and Mourne were targeted by vandals. In the first incident, six windows at St Columban’s College on the Newcastle Road in Kilkeel were smashed, resulting in an estimated £1,200 of repairs.
The damage was discovered on the morning of March 27 and is believed to have occurred at some point during the preceding weekend. Police investigating the attack are understood to have carried out door-to-door inquiries.
Meanwhile in a separate attack, £4,000 worth of damage was caused to the interior of a mini-bus belonging to Our Lady’s Grammar School in Newry.
The bus, which was parked at the school’s Chequer Hill premises, was targeted between 10.30pm on March 27 and 7.30am the following morning.
A PSNI spokeswoman said that police are currently checking CCTV footage of the area and confirmed that investigations are continuing. Representatives of both schools told the Democrat that they would prefer not to comment on the incidents.
