ORGANISATIONS across Newry and Mourne are celebrating after scooping a £37,056 lottery windfall. Five groups from Newry and Mourne shared the money as part of a roll-out of £580,000 to 86 organisations across Northern Ireland in the Awards for All scheme. Divernagh Rural Development Association received £9,121 to help reduce social isolation through the provision of educational and musical classes.
The Fews Community Association was granted £1,675 to provide cultural and social activities for its members. St Mary's High School, Newry, received £9,998 to produce and perform a community musical event to celebrate the school's 50th anniversary.
Creggan Hall Management Committee in south Armagh received £9,262 to organise a range of social activities and to buy new equipment for the hall. Newry and Mourne District Community Service Council was also awarded £10,000 to enable the group, who offer services to older people in the area, to provide a meals on wheels service.
"The Awards for All programme, supported by Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport Northern Ireland continues to make a huge impact in local communities," said Awards for All Programme Manager Nuala Macauley.
"It is clear that there is a real need for such funding and that smaller projects can bring positive changes to the lives of local people.”
