Bessbrook Utd 1 Legal Athletic 0 BESSBROOK United
just about hung on to a 1-0 lead at Orior Park in what was a very lacklustre affair. The bumpy pitch and heavy conditions didn’t help matters either.
The visitors should have gone ahead on seven minutes when a long throw-in caused all sorts of confusion in the Brook defence with the ball eventually falling to the feet of Gavin McFee; but his effort was brilliantly cleared off the line by Bryan Ferguson.
United went ahead on the quarter hour when a Dermot Fearon throw-in was flicked on by Philip Hughes into the path of Stephen Feehan who headed in at the far post. The game then got bogged down in the middle of the park with both teams trying to adapt to the tricky conditions.
On 20 minutes Bessbrook’s Gary McVicar broke down the left but his parting shot was well saved by Ciaran Conlon in the Legal goal. Just on the half hour it was McVicar again who just failed to slide in at the far post after Philip Hughes set him up.
Legal had their moments too with Gavin McFee blasting over just before the break. Bessbrook came out for the second half in determined mood with Lee McKay testing Conlon with a low drive.
